NetApp World-Record Benchmark Result Shows 35% Performance Increase with Less Than Half the Infrastructure

NetApp World-Record Benchmark Result Shows 35% Performance Increase with Less Than Half the Infrastructure

NetApp Enables Companies for Future Growth and Innovation while Maintaining IT Efficiency

SUNNYVALE, Calif.—November 2, 2011 —NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced six high-performing SPECsfs2008 NFS benchmark results, including a world record, further validating that NetApp customers don’t need to compromise efficiency and flexibility to achieve high performance. The speed of business has changed, and companies are required to be more agile than ever before, while keeping costs down. Innovative and value-conscious companies need to look at NetApp first for their high-performance storage needs.

News Facts

  • SPEC, the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation, is an independent nonprofit that was formed to establish, maintain, and endorse a broad set of standardized benchmarks. SPECsfs2008 measures file server throughput and response time.
  • NetApp conducted the SPECsfs2008 benchmarks on the NetApp® FAS6200 series, running on the Data ONTAP 8® operating system. These systems can be combined in a single unified cluster that enables customers to scale with data in place as their business grows.
  • The six new SPECsfs2008_nfs.v3 benchmark results demonstrate the leading NAS performance, linear scalability, and efficiency that NetApp storage solutions deliver to customers:
    • Performance. NetApp scalable storage architecture achieves world-record NFS performance for demanding NAS workloads with 1,512,784 ops per second and an overall response time of 1.53ms.
    • Scalability. NetApp linear scalability enables companies to start with solutions sized for their current storage requirements and massively scale to meet future demands. As nodes are nondisruptively added to the NetApp cluster, performance increases linearly and the system continues to provide the same fast response time. This highlights the future-ready scalability and flexibility of the NetApp clustered infrastructure running Data ONTAP 8, proven by the six new benchmark results with 4-, 8-, 12-, 16-, 20-, and 24-node clusters.
    • Efficiency. NetApp’s best-in-class efficiency, as compared to the public information related to the competitive product with the next highest SPECsfs2008 NFS result, is highlighted in the NetApp 24-node benchmark, which used 50% fewer disk drives and 80% fewer controller nodes while delivering 35% higher performance and 40% faster response time.

Xerox Releases 2011 Global Citizenship Report

Xerox Releases 2011 Global Citizenship Report

Xerox Canada Wins Inaugural Green Living Award for Excellence in Corporate Responsibility
TORONTO, ON., Oct. 28, 2011 -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) released its sixth Global Citizenship Report.  The report illustrates how the company’s continued innovation supports the triple bottom line; good for the customer, good for the company and good for the planet.

For customers, Xerox leverages the power of technology to help them reduce their carbon footprint, through managed print services, cutting paper-use through digital imaging, archiving and indexing.  And with Xerox’s solid ink technology, there is less waste with no cartridges to dispose of and far less packaging to add to landfills. For the company, Xerox has reduced its own greenhouse gas emissions by 31 percent from 2002 levels, the result of improved energy efficiency, new technologies and rigorous energy management practices.  For the planet, Xerox manages automated toll systems like E-ZPass; to help municipalities around the globe reduce traffic congestion and other associated environmental impacts.

In the report’s letter to stakeholders, Ursula Burns, Xerox chairman and CEO, said, “The new Xerox is better positioned and equipped to help enterprises leave the planet better than we found it and build organizations that can sustain themselves far into the future. We execute our services so our customers save money, boost productivity, improve customer care, reduce energy consumption, use less paper and know they are getting best-in-class solutions.”

The 2011 Report on Global Citizenship is organized around four areas that capture the essence of Xerox’s citizenship efforts:
  • Supporting the customer- After achieving five consecutive years of certification in the J.D. Power and Associates Certified Technology Service & Support (CTSS) program for providing “An Outstanding Customer Service Experience”, Xerox was named to its Hall of Fame.
  • Improving the Workplace-Ensuring a workplace that is diverse and fair to all, Xerox has developed innovative channels for employee feedback, including the Voice of the Employee Survey, conducted in 37 countries.
  • Preserving the planet- In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the company decreased water consumption by more than 40 million liters annually across worldwide sites.
  • Advancing the community-Over the years, the Xerox Community Involvement Program has funded over 18,000 projects supported by 400,000 employees.
Earlier this week, Xerox Canada won the Green Living Excellence in Corporate Responsibility Award (ECR) in the large business, information, communications and technology category. The ECR awards program was developed to honour and celebrate corporate Canadians for outstanding work and dedication to creating sustainable and ethical practices within the business framework.

“Responsible corporate citizenship is about enabling tomorrow today,” said Emechete Onuoha, vice president, Citizenship and Government Affairs, Xerox Canada. “It has a lot to do with who we are, how we thrive and the ceaseless pursuit of progress through innovation."
In September, Xerox was recognized for its commitment to sustainable innovation by its inclusion on the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI North America).  The listing identifies leaders in sustainability and gives investors a way to follow companies that embrace environmental and social values.  For more information about Xerox Corporation’s citizenship activities, visit http://www.xerox.com/citizenship.

Diversinet Receives Mobile-Security Patent

Diversinet Receives U.S. Patent for Securely Storing Information on a Mobile Device

Anti-Cloning Encryption Method Protects Sensitive Healthcare and Other Data;
Patent Enriches Diversinet’s Intellectual Property Portfolio

TORONTO, Nov. 2, 2011 – Diversinet Corp. (TSX Venture: DIV, OTCBB: DVNTF), a leader in “Connected and Protected” mobile healthcare communications, was awarded a U.S. patent for an encryption method that addresses growing concerns about protecting sensitive personal data stored on a mobile device.

U.S. Patent No. 8,051,297, “A Method for Binding a Security Element to a Mobile Device,” covers the security of information on a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet.

The patented technology prevents unauthorized access to the data on a mobile device via encryption and prevents access to the information if it is transferred to another mobile device. Notably, unlike other methods, it uses characteristics of a mobile device’s unique identity, such as its serial number, to create the encryption passkey.

Diversinet has integrated the patented solution into its MobiSecure® mobile healthcare (mHealth) products, which help healthcare organizations quickly and cost-effectively deploy HIPAA-compliant mHealth applications anytime, anywhere on mobile devices.

The technology can also benefit financial services, government organizations and other industries that require information to be stored securely on mobile devices. Mobile industry analysts estimate that more than 50 percent of the U.S. population will have smartphones at the end of 2011 and that number will grow to more than 70 percent by 2013.

For mHealth, the patented technology offers added security and flexibility, enabling healthcare payers and providers to rely on accurate, current information that patients carry on their mobile devices. The information is accessible even when patients temporarily do not have network coverage.

With this award, Diversinet’s intellectual property portfolio includes 16 patents in the U.S., Canada and Israel, with 32 patent applications pending.

“Our technology creates a highly secure information source on mobile devices, while providing our customers a patent-protected product,” said Diversinet Chairman and CEO Albert Wahbe. “We believe both of these aspects inherently increase the value of our company, particularly in the current environment of patent stockpiling and litigation related to mobile communication technology.”

About Diversinet
Diversinet Corp. (TSX Venture: DIV, OTCBB: DVNTF) provides patented and proven secure products that enable healthcare organizations to rapidly deploy HIPAA-compliant mobile healthcare (mHealth) applications to anyone, anytime, anywhere, on mobile devices. Diversinet’s MobiSecure® application addresses the increasing need for secure messaging, as well as safe, convenient, on-the-go storage and sharing of personal health data. Canadian Digital Media Network Embarks on Canada 3.0 National Tour to Jump-start Innovation and Opportunity in Canada

Canadian Digital Media Network Embarks on Canada 3.0 National Tour to Jump-start Innovation and Opportunity in Canada

Topics, action items to be shared with key stakeholders in industry, government and academia - influence CDMN Canada 3.0 2012 digital media forum

WATERLOO REGION, ON and FREDERICTON, Nov. 2, 2011 /CNW/ - Atlantic Canada is the site of the first stop in a Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN) national tour that will elicit input from digital media influencers from coast-to-coast and seed ideas to spark innovation and future employment for Canadians.

Findings from regional stops along the national tour route will be compiled and shared with decision-makers in industry, government and academia and will shape the agenda and best practices for the CDMN Canada 3.0 2012 digital media forum.

"The tour is being undertaken to ensure that influencers right across the country have a hand in identifying the challenges and solutions we're tackling in the digital media sector," said Kevin Tuer, Managing Director of the CDMN. "At the same time, we hope to give back regionally by sharing ideas on how a digital media strategy can help organizations innovate, increase job opportunities and benefit communities."

Fredericton was chosen as the first stop November 3 because of the New Brunswick Innovation Forum being held November 2-3 which attracts Information and Communications Technology (ICT) companies, researchers, partners and investors. The Innovation Forum is hosted by the National Research Council (NRC) which is the CDMN's partner for Atlantic Canada.

"Aligning the tour stop with the Innovation Forum in Fredericton worked well to enable CDMN to consult with senior regional influencers and decision-makers to examine digital media strategies for the Canadian economy," said Tuer. Tuer is also a speaker at the forum, presenting on the topic "How to take Canadian innovation international".

CDMN is the organization that orchestrates the Canada 3.0 digital media forum annually, and which is responsible for creating a national corridor of collaboration among organizations dedicated to furthering digital media in Canada. More action, not just words was a theme expressed at the 2011 forum, so the CDMN took up that challenge to help fuel strategies that can impact the Canadian economy. Organizers say the national tour will extend the reach of the CDMN Canada 3.0 digital media forum and ensure it's a national agenda being addressed at next spring's forum.

Other stops on the CDMN Canada 3.0 National Tour will include Montreal, Ontario (venue to be confirmed), Calgary, Vancouver and Yellowknife. For further information, go to www.cdmn.ca.

TELUS annual report remains world-class

TELUS annual report remains world-class

TELUS' annual report ranked among top 10 in the world for eighth year in a row

VANCOUVER, Nov. 2, 2011 /CNW/ - TELUS today announced the company's 2010 annual report has been ranked the eighth best in the world across all industries, according to this year's Annual Report on Annual Reports 2011, a global survey of annual reports drawn from a sample of approximately 1,500 companies.

The Annual Report on Annual Reports 2011 judges evaluated 500 annual reports shortlisted from the wider selection of 1,500 publicly listed corporations. The comprehensive survey looks at 10 key evaluation criteria: packaging, highlights, strategy, business, financials, investors, governance, accounting, responsibility and communication.

"The TELUS report not only stands out in the telecom sector but also across the board because of the quality of its financial report," said Mike Guillaume, editor of the Annual Report on Annual Reports. "TELUS targets are set and highlighted, which a vast majority of annual reports dare not do, and then checked and reviewed. Capabilities are analyzed and changes in financial position are explained clearly. Once again, congratulations to the whole TELUS reporting team."

Mr. Guillaume also said TELUS' Business at a Glance section; straightforward messages from TELUS President and CEO Darren Entwistle and TELUS executive vice-president and Chief Financial Officer Robert McFarlane; risk management; governance; and the clarity in notes to statements are also strengths that set the TELUS annual report apart from the rest.

"TELUS is honoured to again be listed as having one of the best annual reports in world and we are equally pleased that TELUS is the only company that has been in the top ten for eight years," said Robert McFarlane, TELUS executive vice-president and Chief Financial Officer. "This acknowledgement underscores our commitment to continuous improvement of our financial, governance and corporate social responsibility reporting best practices."

The judges gave the TELUS 2010 annual report an 'A' rating. This year, only 12 Canadian companies made the top 300 and only one other Canadian company made the top 50.
