CA Technologies and HyTrust Inc. Forge Alliance to Arm Customers With Tools Needed to Secure Virtual and Cloud Infrastructures

Complementary Technologies Allow Organizations to Virtualize with Confidence

ISLANDIA, N.Y. and MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – August 24, 2011 – Technology alliance partners CA Technologies (NASDAQ:CA) and HyTrust Inc., a leader in policy management and access control for virtual infrastructure, today announced a collaboration to further improve security and compliance for customers leveraging virtualized systems and cloud infrastructures.

HyTrust Appliance complements CA Access Control by administering various aspects of a virtual infrastructure such as unified access control, policy enforcement and audit-quality logging. HyTrust also supports the recently announced CA Automation Suite for Clouds by providing the security policy and compliance capabilities needed to improve security of the cloud infrastructure.

“A big part of security in the virtualized and cloud world is control of internal users and mitigating internal threats. Organizations need to enforce controls, and they need to have assurance from any cloud provider that its IT administrators are in control - with respect to accessing customer information, applications and systems,” said Lina Liberti, vice president, Security Business, CA Technologies.

Liberti continued, “Our customers have been using CA Access Control for years to help secure and govern privileged user access to critical systems. When coupled with the HyTrust Appliance, the synergies can deliver a robust solution to address control, security management and compliance in virtual and cloud environments from the infrastructure to the services and applications hosted in the private or public cloud.”

Large enterprises continue to explore the benefits of the cloud based on their experiences with virtualization, according to a December 2010 study conducted by Management Insight on behalf of CA Technologies. This expansion moves them to a more complex infrastructure that demands more sophisticated and automated management and security.

“Virtualization presents one of the most significant security challenges an IT organization faces, with the IT administrator being essentially given the ‘keys to the kingdom’ -- access to every system and application. In the move to the cloud, the added complexity and multi-tenancy aspects of the infrastructure bring management, security, and compliance issues to the forefront,” said Eric Chiu, founder and president, HyTrust, Inc.

Chiu continued, “HyTrust Appliance, working in conjunction with CA Technologies access control and cloud automation solutions, helps solve the issues involved in enforcement of end-to-end security policies and compliance controls. The combined solution supports sophisticated cloud infrastructures and enables the deployment of mission-critical and regulated applications in virtual environments.”

Both companies will showcase these solutions at VMWorld 2011 in Las Vegas (August 29 – September 1). CA Technologies, a platinum sponsor of the conference, will be speaking at the conference and will be demonstrating its technology in booth number 439 and HyTrust will be demonstrating its technology in booth number 460.

Project and Portfolio Management Plays Increasingly Influential Role in Driving Cloud Transformation, Global Study Reveals

CA Technologies-sponsored Study Shows Increase in PPM Demand to Help Organizations Plan, Execute Cloud Initiatives

ISLANDIA, NY, August 29, 2011 – Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) will play an increasingly vital role in driving cloud transformation, according to a global, independent research study, The PPM Cloud Accelerator Report 2011 commissioned by CA Technologies. Additionally, the survey revealed that over the next two years, there will be a 13 percent increase in demand for PPM among organizations to plan and execute successful cloud initiatives―the highest increase of any software category used to manage public cloud-related projects.

The survey of 530 organizations in nine countries―Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States―also found that 41.5 percent of respondents expect public cloud use to increase IT project complexity. Part of the reason for this, the survey reveals, is that the proportion of public cloud investment bypassing the control of IT will rise by six percent during the next two years. By adopting PPM solutions, organizations will be uniquely positioned to manage successful cloud initiatives, increase business agility and innovation, and provide visibility and control over their cloud services portfolio.

“CIOs need to retain visibility and control to ensure the transformative value of cloud computing does not come at a high cost,” explains Helge Scheil, senior vice president, CA Technologies. “The report reinforces the view that PPM solutions are an increasingly important weapon in helping enterprises handle public cloud investments, application migration and governance. With PPM, organizations can begin to align resources, requirements and schedules to continually improve the innovation lifecycle. Moreover, they can determine what is needed, accelerate time-to-value for every investment and clearly demonstrate the transformational value of cloud computing investments.”

Other highlights of The PPM Cloud Accelerator Report 2011 include:

• Use of Cloud-based services is increasing: the proportion of IT budget invested in public Clouds will rise to 19 percent by end of 2013.
• Cost savings are the primary reason for applications to be moved to and/or sourced from the Cloud.
• Europe and North America could be neck and neck in public Cloud adoption by 2013: Europe will allocate 17.9 percent of their IT budgets to public Cloud-based services by the end of 2013, compared to 17 percent in North America.
• Enterprises currently not using PPM solutions recognize the strategic value PPM could provide in terms of Cloud adoption decision making, and they anticipate adopting PPM solutions in the future.
• Large-scale application migration will be hard work for at least 50 percent of all applications―hence the need for solutions such as PPM.

About The PPM Cloud Accelerator Report 2011

This global research study was conducted by Ovum, a leading research and analysis organization, on behalf of CA Technologies. Ovum conducted telephone interviews on behalf of CA Technologies with key IT decision makers in 530 organizations worldwide.  The participating countries were Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the U.K. and the U.S. The organizations surveyed ranged in size, industry sector and geography, but practically all are currently using public Clouds. Industry sectors included were: education, finance, healthcare and pharmaceutical, technology, media and telecommunications, manufacturing, public sector, retail and wholesale services, energy, infrastructure, and utilities.

Symantec Refreshes Industry-leading Storage and Availability Products for VMware Environments

Symantec Refreshes Industry-leading Storage and Availability Products for VMware Environments

TORONTO, ON - Aug. 29, 2011 – Today at VMworld 2011, Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced broad support across its storage and availability product portfolio for the VMware industry leading virtualization and cloud platform – including expected support for the upcoming release of VMware vSphere 5. By leveraging Symantec’s storage management, high availability, and management platform within VMware environments, customers can confidently virtualize their business critical applications with full support for application availability, better storage visibility, powerful storage optimization, and the ability to bridge the gap between physical and virtual environments.

More than one-third of enterprises are planning to implement virtualization within the next year for business-critical applications such as transactional databases, email and ERP, according to recent research from Symantec. Symantec’s Virtualization and Evolution to the Cloud study reveals that as organizations migrate to virtual and cloud environments, protecting business-critical applications and making them highly available become high priority.

Optimized storage management in VMware environments

Veritas Storage Foundation helps customers migrate storage across a wide range of supported arrays, snapshot and replicate critical application data, and leverage thin provisioning and reclamation within the guest. Symantec’s next release of Storage Foundation 6.0 is expected to help customers transform their existing data center assets to a private cloud environment, while fully leveraging the benefits of virtualization.

Symantec’s industry leading Veritas Cluster File System provides fast failover of applications between virtual machines for business critical applications, cutting down recovery time to a couple of minutes or less, while ensuring data integrity and high performance.

In addition, Symantec has worked closely with VMware to develop and release Symantec VirtualStore, allowing storage administrators reuse of existing SAN storage investments to create a scalable, clustered NAS solution designed for VMware environments. VirtualStore allows IT organizations to scale I/O throughput and storage capacity independently of one another, while providing space efficient cloning of guest OS images and allowing rapid provisioning of virtual desktops. VirtualStore helps customers eliminate boot storm issues and dramatically reduce storage costs, while continuing to offer Symantec’s leading storage technologies, like thin reclamation, compression, tiering, cache optimization, and broad support for multiple storage platforms.

Proven high availability of business critical applications running on VMware

In collaboration with VMware, Symantec recently released the latest version of Symantec ApplicationHA, which ensures application availability in a virtual machine by adding application awareness to VMwareHA. ApplicationHA fully integrates with vSphere and vCenter and provides application visibility and control within the guest OS. It allows start, stop, and recovery of applications, coordinates with VMware High Availability and VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager for automated application recovery and disaster recovery, and provides a comprehensive dashboard that maps the application environment within the VMware deployment. Symantec is planning to announce ApplicationHA 6.0, which is expected to integrate with Backup Exec to enable users to restore a previous version of a virtual machine in case of virtual machine corruption. ApplicationHA 6.0 is also planned to support VMware vSphere 5.

In addition, Veritas Cluster Server, Symantec’s industry recognized high availability and clustering solution, provides local high availability, wide-area disaster recovery, and multi-tier application availability across physical and virtual environments.  The upcoming release of Veritas Cluster Server 6.0 is planned to help customers further transform their existing assets to a resilient and highly available, private cloud.

Centralized visibility and control of storage and application dependencies across physical, virtual, and cloud

Veritas Operations Manager allows administrators to visualize and manage the data center across physical and virtual platforms. With application-to-storage mapping in Veritas Operations Manager, customers can analyze in-depth information, such as RAID levels, replication, snapshots, and thin provisioning – on storage used by each application. Building on these insights, Veritas Operations Manager provides users with storage template based provisioning to implement a storage service catalog, automate storage provisioning in accordance with service levels, and ensure applications consistently consume storage from the appropriate tier of storage. Veritas Operations Manager also offers management of multiple clusters across physical and virtual environments from a single console. Now application owners, VMware administrators, and storage administrators have a single view to better design, analyze, and manage storage and availability architectures. Veritas Operations Manager communicates through vCenter APIs to gather key information to develop and display these reports.

Hybrid Cloud

VMware and Partners Deliver Global Cloud; vCloud Portal and vCloud
Connector™ 1.5 Simplify Access and Management

VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager™ 5 to Power Disaster Recovery to
the Cloud Services

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 29, 2011 - Today at VMworld® 2011, VMware, Inc. (NYSE:
VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure,
announced several new vCloud offerings that will make it easy for
enterprises to find, connect and manage cloud services from the
world’s largest network of service providers. With more than 5,600
members in 62 countries, the VMware service provider program (VSPP)
offers customers a wide choice of cloud services built on VMware cloud
infrastructure that can function as an extension of any
VMware-virtualized datacentre.

“There’s tremendous interest from VMware customers for reliable,
high-performance, secure clouds that are compatible with their existing
applications and datacenter operations. VMware and our partners are
uniquely positioned to deliver this, and we’ve seen VSPP bookings grow
174 per cent this year,” said Dan Chu, vice president, cloud services,
VMware. “The new products and capabilities we announced today will
continue to refine and advance vCloud-based offerings from service

VMware and its partners will accelerate the journey to the enterprise
hybrid cloud with:

- Global Connect - Multiple service providers, multiple geographies; a
single global cloud
First introduced in August 2010, VMware vCloud Datacenter Services are
enterprise-class public clouds built on VMware cloud infrastructure
(www.vmware.com/cloud-infrastructure ), including VMware vSphere®
(http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/overview.html

), VMware
vShield™ (http://www.vmware.com/products/vshield/overview.html) and
VMware vCloud Director™
(http://www.vmware.com/products/vcloud-director/overview.html).
Certified by VMware and offering globally consistent management and
security, this network of service providers is expected to span 25
datacentres in 1
3 countries by the end of 2011. Today VMware and its
partners are introducing Global Connect, an optional feature of the
vCloud Datacenter service that will allow customers to use cloud
services from multiple providers across geographies as if they are a
single, virtual cloud. Bluelock, SingTel and Softbank Telecom
(http://www.vmware.com/company/news/releases/vmw-vmworld-partners-082911)
are expected to be the first providers to offer Global Connect
services.

For multinational customers that require high performance
(low-latency), highly available cloud computing local to the countries
where they operate, Global Connect will give them an easier way to
address compliance with international regulations for data privacy,
locality and confidentiality. Customers will work directly with their
local vCloud Datacenter service provider, who orchestrates service
delivery internationally with Global Connect, allowing customers to
seamlessly leverage services from connected providers with a single
contract and “single pane of glass” management across clouds using
vCloud Connector.

- VMware vCloud Connector™ 1.5 - Fast, reliable transfer between
private and public clouds
Since its introduction in February 2011, more than 1,300 VMware
customers have adopted VMware vCloud Connector
(http://www.vmware.com/products/datacenter-virtualization/vcloudconnector/overview.html)
to view, transfer and manage workloads between vSphere clusters, private
and public clouds. Today, VMware is announcing vCloud Connector 1.5 with
a new faster, highly reliable data transfer architecture that will
reduce the time it takes to transfer workloads, while automatically
retrying and resuming transfers interrupted by network problems. vCloud
Connector 1.5 will also be accessible from any compatible Web browser,
or as a plug-in for vCenter Console.

- vcloud.vmware.com - The gateway to the enterprise hybrid cloud
To help customers more easily begin extending their virtualized
datacentres to the hybrid cloud, VMware today launched an online
destination where enterprises can find vCloud service providers, learn
about their capabilities and coverage, and quickly test drive new cloud
services. Customers can then easily and quickly transfer workloads and
data into those cloud services using the integrated vCloud Connector 1.5
Web client.

- Disaster recovery to the cloud with vCenter Site Recovery Manager™ 5
Today, four VMware service provider partners are announcing plans to
introduce new cloud-based disaster recovery services
(http://www.vmware.com/solutions/datacenter/disaster-recovery-to-cloud)
built on vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5
(http://www.vmware.com/products/site-recovery-manager/overview.html),
which was announced on July 12, 2011. FusionStorm, Hosting.com, iland
and VeriStor are expected to be the first providers to offer these
services, which will make it simple and cost-effective for businesses of
all sizes to protect their applications by allowing them to failover to
a service provider’s site in the event of a disaster. (Please see
http://www.vmware.com/company/news/releases/vmw-vmworld-partners-082911.)
These cloud-based services will be sold on a pay-per-use model,
eliminating the significant cost associated with building dedicated
failover sites.

When a disaster happens, or a customer wants to perform recovery
testing, vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5 will automate and manage the
entire failover process, and can also automatically “failback” to
the customer’s site once the customer is ready to resume operations.
This is made possible by the new VMware vSphere Replication capabilities
in vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5. VMware vSphere Replication is the
industry’s first hypervisor-based replication, which enables data
replication across sites independently of the underlying storage arrays.
This eliminates the need for identical storage environments across
primary and recovery sites and simplifies data replication between
customer datacentres and public clouds.

- VMware Cloud Infrastructure Suite - The Foundation for the Enterprise
Hybrid Cloud
Announced on July 12, 2011, VMware vSphere 5 and the cloud
infrastructure suite, including VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5,
VMware vCloud Director 1.5 and VMware vShield 5, are the foundation for
the enterprise hybrid cloud. Together, these products will help
customers transform IT to drive greater efficiency of existing
investments and improve operational agility. (Please see
http://www.vmware.com/company/news/releases/vmw-cloud-infrastructure-071211html.)
