McAfee Changes Security Landscape with New Consumer Mobile Device Offerings

MCAFEE CHANGES SECURITY LANDSCAPE WITH NEW CONSUMER MOBILE DEVICE OFFERINGS

83 Per Cent of Canadians Who Use A Mobile Device Want Extended Security Protection*; Consumer Product Portfolio to include McAfee® Mobile Security and McAfee® WaveSecure™ Software for Android Tablets

MARKHAM, ONT. – June 21, 2011 – McAfee today announced it is extending its mobile device portfolio for consumers with McAfee Mobile Security and McAfee WaveSecure Tablet Edition.  These mobile device offerings change the mobile security landscape by offering security safeguards that help consumers secure their mobile devices for personal use, commerce and work.

A recent Leger Marketing survey*, commissioned by McAfee Canada, showed that Canadians overwhelmingly want security technologies to protect their mobile devices. Eighty three per cent (83%) of Canadians who use a mobile device want some (36%) or full (47%) protections (e.g. ability to remotely lock the device from unauthorized access; ability to remotely wipe the device’s memory; ability to locate the device using GPS technology; and ability to back up the device) to secure their mobile devices. Only 17 per cent of respondents do not feel the security of mobile devices is important.

According to a mobile security report released last week by McAfee and Carnegie Mellon University, titled, “Mobility and Security: Dazzling Opportunities, Profound Challenges,” respondents named their top three security concerns to be the loss of personal or work data through the accidental loss of a device, physical theft of the device, or loss of their data due to their device “crashing.” In addition, close to half of all respondents said they were using their smartphones both for personal use and work, demonstrating that consumers want more than just personal device security.

McAfee Mobile Security software, available for both smartphones and tablets, provides a comprehensive mobile security solution by combining three leading McAfee mobile security products:  WaveSecure, VirusScan Mobile and SiteAdvisor® for Android. It is ideal for users who want protection for their data and privacy in the event of loss or theft, protection against the growing threats of viruses and spyware targeting mobile devices and protection from Web- based threats, such as phishing sites that probe for personal and sensitive information.

With McAfee Mobile Security, consumers can now access the following features and functionality in a single download:

  • Back-up and restore data to help protect sensitive information and irreplaceable photos. Even if the device is missing, it can be backed up before it is wiped clean of information
  • Protection against misuse (such as excessive phone charges) as well as safeguarding personal data with remote locking capabilities
  • An audible alarm to help users find the device or disrupt a thief, and or pop-up a notification with instructions for returning the device
  • Remotely remove data from a lost or stolen device via the McAfee Web portal, mobile Web portal or via a SMS message from a buddy device
  • 24/7 real-time anti-malware protection against viruses, worms and spyware, Trojan horses and battery-sapping malware
  • Protection from malicious Web sites, phishing, identity theft, and credit card fraud when shopping online. SiteAdvisor software for Android provides colour-coded site ratings that appear right next to the search results, allowing Android users to confidently browse and search the mobile Web
  • Management of mobile device protection allows consumers to quickly execute needed security tasks, backup, locate, wipe, etc. via the McAfee Web portal and a simple device interface
  • All backed by McAfee Labs with its 24/7 global presence and dedicated team of threat researchers

The WaveSecure Tablet Edition offers Android users with WiFi the ability to find their missing device with alarm and location tracking, prevent misuse with remote lock and wipe and preserve important memories and personal data with remote backup, even from a lost or misplaced device. Users can also trigger an audible alarm to help them find the device or disrupt a thief, and send a brief SMS message with instructions for returning it.

“With device growth eclipsing PCs, Canadians are increasingly concerned about the security of mobile devices and require tools that can protect not only their personal information, but can provide safeguards for business data should they use their device for work,” said James Galpin, McAfee Canada’s Consumer Manager and Security Specialist. “Consumers face the same threats on mobile devices as they do in the online world except it is far easier to misplace your device than your personal computer. Canadians can be hacked, infected or phished on a mobile device just as easily as they can online.”

Availability and Pricing

McAfee Mobile Security and WaveSecure software are available in the following languages: Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Dutch, English, French (European and Canadian), German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (European and Brazilian), Swedish, Spanish (European and Mexican) and Russian. McAfee Mobile Security software is available as an annual subscription of CDN$29.99 per year from McAfee and the Android Market. McAfee WaveSecure software is available as an annual subscription of CDN$19.99 from McAfee and the Android Market.

* The online survey of 1,500 Canadians, 18 years of age or older, was completed over the period May 24-26, 2011 by Leger Marketing. A probability sample of the same size would yield a margin of error of +/- 2.5 per cent, 19 times out of 20.

Trend Micro Endorses Industry-Wide Real-World Testing of Security Products

Trend Micro Endorses Industry-Wide Real-World Testing of Security Products

Test labs design comprehensive, real-world testing approaches for competing security solutions; Trend Micro leads in highest percentage threat detection results

OTTAWA, June 21, 2011 /CNW/ - Trend Micro Incorporated today praised multiple security testing vendors for advancing methodologies that show how effective products are in protecting against the new and insidious real-world threats. NSS Labs, AV-Test.org, and Dennis Technology Labs are among the labs that have fostered a greater understanding of the new threats and vulnerabilities across the security industry, and developed ingenious ways to test for them so that users can better assess how well they are being protected.

"Lab security testing has become much more difficult since 2009, because the threat landscape has changed so rapidly," said Ian Gordon, Trend Micro Canada's director of marketing and channel. "We endorse and applaud the efforts these particular test labs have made in order to pioneer greater understanding of security issues and priorities for both consumers and businesses. Consistency across 10 tests since 2009 is one important benchmark of the progress that we and the testers have made."

Real world testing1 and validation of Trend Micro products provide numerous examples of those consistent results (see table):

  • #1 across multiple testing labs provides an unbiased view of protection capabilities.
  • #1 over time means the vendor solution can adapt with the changing threat landscape.
  • #1 across endpoint products tailored for different customers (enterprise, consumer, small business) ensures all customers get the same level of protection.
  • #1 against key competitors proves Trend Micro endpoint solutions are designed to protect our customers very effectively.

"Trend Micro has led many real-world benchmark tests from multiple labs since September 2009 against competitors, including Symantec, McAfee, Kaspersky and ESET," said Jon Clay, Trend Micro senior marketing manager, core technology "Clearly, Trend Micro Smart Protection Network, our client-cloud infrastructure underpinning our consumer as well as business products, is the 'secret sauce' that delivers consistent and correlated protection across multiple threats - url/web, email/spam, and file."

Trend Micro will continue to collaborate with test organizations and submit to product evaluation at labs that practice real-world testing (tests using threat samples gathered live from the typical threat sources, applied via realistic attack vectors, and allowing tested security products to use all available protection layers).

Cloud computing allows people to acquire resources on demand from a
service provider (SP) and store data on the service provider's system
rather than hosting this information on their own computers. The term
"cloud computing" refers to the information which is processed and
stored on computers that are offsite, often in a location unknown to
the client and accessed via the Internet. Enterprise cloud computing
offers resource sharing within one business or enterprise and provides
secure, fast and flexible sharing of computer power, storage and
software focusing on one company's or business's individual demands.

IBM Cloud Security

IBM Launches Smart Cloud for Disaster Recovery and Data Archive

New cloud services further extend back up, archiving and recovery for critical data and applications

Armonk, NY, June 20, 2011 – IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced new cloud services that enable clients to protect, store and retrieve their most critical data in minutes versus days in the event of a disaster.

Disasters - whether from hurricanes, earthquakes or IT failures - can cause significant damage to businesses in the loss of crucial data and revenue. Analyst estimates state that the loss of revenue during downtime is tens of thousands of dollars for every hour.

Businesses need to assess threat risks and create a resilience strategy that helps ensure uninterrupted business operations and enables speed and agility when an unforeseen event strikes. The new IBM SmartCloud Resilience services allow customers to protect their data and applications faster, cheaper and in a more flexible manner than they could before within a traditional data center environment.

Historically, companies created numerous images of servers and applications at running at multiple sites, adding to the complexity and cost of IT management. Now, the IBM SmartCloud offers companies of various sizes a virtual and physical server recovery service that continuously replicates their applications and all associated data on a secure cloud infrastructure. This enables them to have their business up and running in minutes after declaring an outage in their IT infrastructure.

By using the IBM cloud, organizations can more easily and cost effectively provide continuous service to their customers and ensure that their data and applications are protected and secure. IBM’s cloud allows clients to securely manage and balance workloads, lower application and system downtime, and reduce data loss. These services help clients to avoid capital expense by more efficiently monitoring operational expenses and service levels, reducing the burden on IT staff.

“Now more than ever, companies are relying on a massive amount of data to run their businesses, storing it longer and retrieving it as needed,” said Rick Ruiz, general manager of IBM’s Business Continuity and Resiliency Services. “This creates a need for a business resilience strategy that will ensure continuous operation and create a competitive advantage to enable growth opportunities. Our new cloud services bring flexibility, scalability, and rapid provisioning to help accomplish that.”

The new services include:

·      IBM SmartCloud Virtualized Server Recovery – The server recovery service increases the reliability and efficiency of recovery to help practically eliminate business downtime, and minimize data loss. Provides clients with an easy-to-use portal for remote access to rapidly bring back their business on IBM’s recovery infrastructure in case of outage, replicating both server software and associated data continuously; eliminates the issues of recovery on physical non-like hardware and travel to disaster sites.

·      IBM SmartCloud Archive – Designed specifically to meet stringent privacy and regulatory compliance, from advanced search and indexing and retrieval, to eDiscovery capabilities. Provides clients with an advanced document and records management system to deal with structured and unstructured content; control over rising data storage costs; and improved availability of critical business content.

The new services complement IBM’s existing SmartCloud Managed Backup offering which has been used by hundreds of clients for the past two years. The cloud-based managed backup services provide flexible, automatic management and monitoring of backup and recovery processes, including hardware, software, installation and support, and can be delivered in a public, private or hybrid cloud environment.

This service can be combined with the Archive and Virtualized services for storage, data protection and replication. Other cloud-based business continuity tools include the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Suite for Unified Recovery (6.2), which provides disaster recovery software that can be enabled as a cloud storage option.

IBM has been working with the United States Golf Association (USGA) since 2008 on a variety of information protection services, including building a comprehensive infrastructure recovery solution.

“With new regulations like compliance and increasing security and data demands on our network, we have made it a priority to protect our data and ensure we have the right disaster recovery plan in place,” said Jessica Carroll, managing director, Information Technologies, USGA. “In working with IBM on this multi-year project and tapping their business resilience and cloud expertise, we have put in place a flexible infrastructure recovery solution that ensures the availability and resiliency of our core business functions."

With more than 40 years of experience with business resilience, continuity and security, IBM uses its software, hardware and services expertise to help clients across the globe protect their data in the cloud. IBM provides organizations with various security measures to secure cloud environments, including data encryption services at IBM Resiliency Centers around the world.  By using a secure by design approach, cloud computing gives organizations more agility and access to resources, while still offering a computing model that has the potential to be more secure than traditional environments

The two new services will be available starting July 19 in certain markets. They are a part of the IBM SmartCloud portfolio, consisting of next-generation, enterprise cloud technologies and services offerings for private, public and hybrid clouds based on IBM hardware, software, services and best practices.

About IBM Cloud Computing

IBM has helped thousands of clients adopt cloud models and manages millions of cloud based transactions every day. IBM assists clients in areas as diverse as banking, communications, healthcare and government to build their own clouds or securely tap into IBM cloud-based business and infrastructure services. Hi Dave,

I know you cover a lot of online security-related content and thought you might be interested in Monday’s announcement relating to Cloud security. Please see below for more details. We have some executives in town Monday and Tuesday to present at the WCDM conference and I would be happy to set up an interview should you be interested in speaking with them.

Cheers,

Debbie

On Monday, June 20, IBM will announce new cloud-based business continuity and resiliency services for companies growing at exponential rates that can't afford downtime. Disasters - whether from hurricanes, earthquakes or IT failures - can stop a business in its tracks with the loss of crucial data and revenue. Businesses need to assess threat risks and create a resilience strategy that helps ensure uninterrupted business operations and enables speed and agility when an unforeseen event strikes.

In short - businesses are moving from a strategy of simple recovery to continuous resiliency, and the cloud offers the flexibility to help accomplish that.

The new IBM SmartCloud Resilience services utilize IBM's cloud platform to help clients more quickly and cost-effectively recover in the event of a disruption or disaster. They can also help efficiently manage risk, reduce costs and meet regulatory compliance mandates - all important capabilities when dealing with the increasing reliance on data and growth into global markets. Cloud services include: server recovery to more quickly and affordably recover servers during disruption; managed archive for more efficient document and records management to meet the most stringent security and compliance requirements; and data protection/backup services that provide security-rich, managed protection of critical data that helps reduce costs.

Case-in-point: THE USGA protects over 500 gigabytes of mission-critical data every day via cloud computing, using our business continuity and resilience services. This included over four million membership records and more than 150,000 daily e-mails.

If you are interested, I am happy to share the draft press release and arrange an IBM executive briefing. Please let me know.

SK Telecom quadruples network capacity to 40G, prepares for 100G

    Nokia Siemens Network

Press Release
Seoul, Korea – June 13, 2011

SK Telecom quadruples network capacity to 40G, prepares for 100G
Selects Nokia Siemens Networks’ optical network equipment for cost-effective transition

SK Telecom, the largest mobile operator in Korea will soon increase its network capacity by four times with 40 gigabits per second (40G) transmission, and prepare its network for transition to 100G capacity in the future. The operator has selected Nokia Siemens Networks’ 100G-ready optical network equipment for a cost-effective capacity expansion. The system uses dense wavelength division multiplexing**(DWDM), where a number of different ‘colors’ or wavelengths of light transports data down the same optical fiber, each carrying information at 40G.

“Korea is one of the most advanced broadband markets in the world, and is home to a vast number of growing smart device users. As data traffic continues to surge in this country, operators are considering plans for terabit optical transport networks or 100G,” said Paul Tyler, head of APAC region at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Nokia Siemens Networks has over 100 DWDM customers around the world and utilizes its technology leadership to ensure a superior end-user experience for SK Telecom customers.”

As part of the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver its hiT 7300 dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) platform to SK Telecom. Based on the CP-QPSK modulation format, the company’s coherent detection 40G transponder* will utilize the operator‘s installed DWDM network infrastructure to transition to 40G line rate without the costly and time-consuming fiber measurement currently required by other systems.

Notes to editors:
* The transponder sends and receives optical signals transmitted through a fiber cable. It is based on coherent detection technology that compensates polarization mode dispersion (PMD). PMD is a negative effect that reduces the reach of high-capacity transponders through electronic signal processing in the receiver and eliminates the need for costly regeneration. With a new modulation format, called CP-QPSK (coherent polarization multiplexed quadrature phase shift keying); the transponder detects not only an optical signal’s amplitude, but also its phase and polarization. Its greater powerful detection capability brings enhanced spectral efficiency, enabling transmission of more data in a specific optical bandwidth.

Nokia Siemens Networks offers enhanced voice quality, capacity on GSM

Nokia Siemens Network

Press Release
Espoo, Finland – June 9, 2011

Nokia Siemens Networks offers enhanced voice quality, capacity on GSM
Conducts world’s first Dual Full Rate call using latest software innovation

Taking a step forward in the evolution of GSM, Nokia Siemens Networks conducted the world’s first pre-commercial call, exploiting its Orthogonal Sub-Channel Dual Full Rate (OSC-DFR) software feature for GSM networks. With this feature, GSM operators can enjoy the twin benefits of up to 100% increase in voice capacity and significantly enhanced speech quality. GSM is by far the most widespread mobile technology with over 4 billion subscriptions worldwide*.

“The new feature builds on our OSC innovation of 2009**, and extends its capabilities by offering better speech quality along with an increase in voice handling capacity,” said Kimmo Virkki, head of GSM product management at Nokia Siemens Networks. “OSC-DFR can reduce capital and operations expenditure for operators as it requires fewer carrier units and base station sites as well as less transport capacity. Moreover, the OSC-DFR feature allows operators to accommodate more voice and data traffic into the existing spectrum, thus facilitating the reuse or refarming of 3G/LTE services in GSM frequency bands.”

Operators who have deployed the commonly used Adaptive Multi Rate-Full Rate (AMR FR)*** in their networks can use the OSC-DFR feature to achieve unmatched speech quality and at the same time can nearly double their voice capacity. Nokia Siemens Networks’ new GSM feature will be used in customer pilots from the end of June 2011.

Nokia Siemens Networks is an industry leader in GSM/EDGE with 362 GSM customers in 142 countries, serving over 2.9 billion subscribers globally.

Fast growth characterizes Canadian entertainment & media spending over the next five years, PwC's global outlook report

Fast growth characterizes Canadian entertainment & media spending over the next five years, PwC's global outlook report

The combination of new digital revenue streams and consumers who are willing to pay for content will result in higher revenues for E&M companies through 2015

TORONTO, June 14, 2011 /CNW/ - Entertainment and media (E&M) spending rose by 4.8% in Canada in 2010 and 3.2% for Canada and the US combined, the first increase in North American spending since 2007, according to PwC's Global Entertainment and Media Outlook 2011-2015, which provides forecasts and analysis on 13 major E&M industry segments in 48 countries.

"The entertainment and media industry is highly motivated to create experiences that engage today's consumer, across multiple-platforms, which in turn is creating multiple opportunities for companies to profit," says Jerry Brown, Associate Partner in the Entertainment & Media practice for PwC.

Canada will grow faster than the US through 2015, with an expected 6.1% compound annual increase compared with a 4.6% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the US. Gains in Canadian spending will be due to double-digit growth in Internet advertising (almost 15% CAGR) and increases of almost 12% for Internet access payments (both high speed and mobile), TV subscriptions (7.4%), trade magazines (6.9%) and out-of-home advertising (6.4%). Both advertising and consumer/end-user spending will also grow in Canada by 5.2% compounded annually.

Accelerated shift of spending from traditional to digital platforms

Currently spending on digital platforms accounts for 26% of all global spending on entertainment and media, but by 2015 PwC says that share will rise to almost 34%, as more consumers access content online and through other non-traditional methods.

This will have impacts across all industries and result in new complimentary revenue streams for traditional business models, from Internet and TV advertising to video games, movies and music. Internet and TV advertising will grow by over 50% by 2015 (from US$5.6 billion to US$8.6 billion in Canada) while mobile apps, the spread of tablets and smartphones will mean a more than three-fold increase in mobile TV advertising (from US$77 million to US$241 million by 2015 in Canada).

"Video-on-demand, new streaming services and 'cloud' based digital storage solutions like digital lockers are going to feed Canadian consumers spending on TV and movies over the next five years," says Michael Paterson, Partner in the Entertainment & Media practice of PwC. "At the same time, more consumers using smartphone's and tablets, together with the increased downloading of video games and the growth of social network games will expand the online and wireless game market."

And while the newspaper market in Canada, forecasted to be US$3.1 billion in 2015, will be over 10% smaller than it was in 2006, paid online content and distribution to mobile devices will begin to offset ongoing decreases in print circulation spending. By 2015 newspaper publishing spending will edge up by 1.5% compounded annually.

"Innovative approaches have supported an unexpectedly strong recovery in advertising led by online and TV. This has helped restore the attractiveness of advertising-funded models for all media types and formats, which are blended with a subscription revenue stream," says Brown.

Consumers are in the driver's seat but what will they pay for?

Many consumers have learned to expect a lot of content to be free. Convincing people to pay where they have not previously will be difficult and require a deep understanding of what consumers' value and will pay for.

"Consumers have never had it so good when it comes to accessing premium content over a variety of devices," says Paterson. "E&M CEOs need to adapt their business models to continue to meet what the consumer's demand. The bottom line is that in order for business to continue to create quality content, someone has to pay."

PwC believes that convenience, the consumer experience as well as overall quality are the key ingredients that matter to consumers when choosing from the menu of content and delivery channels available. Alongside these are participation and privilege - consumers enjoy playing an active role in shaping their content plus they are happy to pay for the privilege to "jump the line" to get earlier access to content.

Brown continues, "The challenge for Canadian entertainment and media companies will be to turn what consumers want and expect into sustainable, profitable and engaging relationships, by offering them advantages which they value. As the digital market evolves and technologies and legislation mature, these factors will reduce the ubiquity of pirated content."

"New ways to store and access user content like Apple's iCloud intend to be a more convenient, consistent alternative to peer to peer sharing and storing content on a device. Cloud based solutions will allow greater certainty that content has the appropriate rights assigned to the user which will further benefit rights owners over time."

Yahoo! Canada Survey: How Much Do Canadians 'Like' Social Media?

Yahoo! Study Reveals How to Best Capture Consumers’ Attention and Influence Purchasing Decisions

Consumers expect brands to know the right time, right message, and right place to connect with them

TORONTO, June 14, 2011 – Yahoo! Canada today released an in-depth study detailing how consumers are influenced and make purchasing decisions in a world filled with social media and multiple online and offline communication channels. For brands, advertisers, and marketers, the results provide compelling insights and recommendations on how to effectively engage with consumers in a digital world.

Based on the findings, advertising’s greatest value stems from the authority of the channel on which it appears and the creative voice through which it speaks. For consumers, advertisements that strategically and creatively align with the respected and trusted channels are viewed as the most informative and authoritative. Consumers base their purchasing decisions on advertising and content found on trusted and well-respected sources, including official company websites. Consumers rank advice and recommendations from friends as the most trustworthy source, while social media pages and blogs are less influential forums.

“Today’s consumers have instant access to information and are more knowledgeable and empowered than ever before, making it impossible to tell a compelling story with a 2.5cm x 2.5cm thumbnail advertisement,” said Paula Presley, executive director of sales, Yahoo! Canada.  “As the premier digital media company, only Yahoo! is able to deliver creative and innovative solutions that are grounded in science, art, and scale. Developing engaging and contextual campaigns across mobile, video, social, and local enables a brand to increase engagement and effectively reach its consumer.”

The Yahoo! Canada study reinforces that brands should forego the one-size-fits-all approach, rather looking to work hand in hand with partners on innovative and creative solutions that engage audiences to tell a story at scale and across multiple platforms – driving real results. The study highlights that the information and authority delivered through a brand’s website cannot be replaced with only social channels – 43% of respondents said advertising is most effective in making them aware of an unknown brand or product compared to 26% of people discovering a brand through its Facebook page or blog.

Key insights into Canadians’ information needs and habits include:

·         In the last three months, two-thirds of Canadians sought out additional information after seeing an advertisement.

·         The Internet is the primary source for information: 4 out of 5 consumers go online for more information about a product or brand. For more than half, the Internet is the first place they look.

·         Advertising is the number one source for product discovery. For 43% of Canadians, advertising is how they first learn about a product or brand.

·         59% of Canadians visit and trust a brand’s website for information, compared to 14% who visit its Facebook page, and 5% who use its Twitter page for the same purpose.

·         Among Canadian shoppers, 39% view TV and print advertising as informative, 32% view online display ads as supplying valuable information, and 24% of consumers view social network ads as informative.

About the Survey

Yahoo!’s Consumers Know Best Study used detailed qualitative and quantitative research to understand the behaviours and needs of Canadian consumers on the path to purchase. Online discussion boards and in-depth interviews generated some of the key themes, and these were validated and quantified with an online survey of 2,000 demographically nationally representative (by age, sex, income, first language and region) respondents between December 2010 and February 2011.  This method simulates a probability sample that would yield a maximum margin of error of +/-2% 19 times out of 20.

Press Release
London, United Kingdom – June 08, 2011

Nokia Siemens Networks wins two Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards
Work with Cubio and Empower recognized for innovative approach to driving agility, efficiency based on software as a service

Nokia Siemens Networks was a double winner at the Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation Awards 2011 yesterday. The company’s Field Service Management system won an award in the ‘Wholesale Service Innovation-Managed Service Innovation’ category. Nokia Siemens Network’s cloud-based communication and messaging platform was honored in the ‘Wireless Network Infrastructure Innovation-Mobile Cloud Platform Innovation’ category. The awards were presented in a ceremony that took place in London June 7, 2011.

Field Service Management is based on software as a service (SaaS) and has been developed and piloted with Empower, a field service provider offering field engineering, construction and maintenance services to energy, telecom and other industries. Empower uses this system to allocate resources for work orders based on their business value and the current location, schedules and skills of its field technicians. The company has estimated that the system has increased the efficiency of field service engineers, allowing them to spend up to 17 percent more of their time on actual maintenance and problem resolution while halving the time it spends on work planning.

“With field engineering and maintenance outsourcing on the rise, we need a consolidated view of field activities to streamline our processes,” said Juhani Vanhala, chief development officer, Empower Group. “Nokia Siemens Networks’ cloud-based solution helps boost our competitiveness as well as expand our service portfolio while maximizing revenues.”

Nokia Siemens Networks’ cloud-based communication platform allows event organizers to disperse regular, up-dated event information or provide mobile ‘welcome’ and registration services for thousands of participants of larger events without heavy investments into hardware and software. Information can be delivered via multiple channels such as SMS and email. Moreover, the platform’s auto-polling feature allows participants to share immediate feedback with event organizers.

“Nokia Siemens Networks cloud-based solution, as part of Cubio Tapahtuma (Event), has enabled us to offer a cost-effective, scalable platform to realize a close interaction between thousands of participants and visitors, and the event organizer,” said Harry Järn, CEO, Cubio. “We manage the complete infrastructure setup and the user interface, and provide necessary support for improving the interaction.”

Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards, established in 2007, recognize innovative projects in the telecommunications industry globally, involving service providers and their technology suppliers.
