NEWS: Veeam Announces New Version of Business View - Manange Virtual Environments Based on Business Criteria

Hello Folks,

This morning, Veeam announced a new version of Business View (BV) a free add-on to its VeeamOne Management suite, which means BV 2.0 can complement Microsoft System Center, HP Operations Manager or Veeam’s own virtualization management tools.

A press release with full details is below, but the new product is also described in a less formal blog post on the Veeam Web site.

In a nutshell, Business View is a free, downloadable product that enables IT to manage the virtual environment based on business criteria rather than on technical data. One could manage VMs according to SLA, business unit (like accounting or engineering) or geographic location. As a result, IT can make intelligent business decisions when it comes to issues like resource utilization and VM sprawl.

New features in this version include:

·         Offline synchronization of attributes: This is an important new feature which allows mapping of attributes from external systems and content management databases (CMDBs). The best use case is to interface with Active Directory to synchronize Business View categorizations.

·         Expanded categorization: Business View has always been able to categorize VMs, and v2.0 extends this capability to clusters, hosts and datastores.

·         New rule capabilities:  In addition to object names and infrastructure locations, rules can now be based on object properties, such as host CPU clock rate and memory size, datastore file system type, and VM vCPU usage.

·         Dynamic groups: Veeam Business View 2.0 automatically creates and maintains groups and group membership to reduce administrative overhead. For example, it can dynamically create, name and populate datastore groups based on free space utilization.

Screenshots are available on request. If you’d like to speak to Veeam about this new release, let me know and I can set that up.

veeam software releases update

to award-winning veeam one solution

New Veeam Business View 2.0 provides CMDB integration,

 expanded categorization and dynamic groups

Columbus, Ohio, March 7, 2011 – Veeam Software, innovative provider of VMware data protection, disaster recovery and VMware management solutions for virtual datacenter environments, today released Veeam Business View™ 2.0, one of the key components of the award-winning Veeam ONE™.

Veeam Business View lets companies manage their virtual environments based on business criteria and priorities, such as service-level agreements (SLAs), business units and geographic locations. By expanding the traditional infrastructure-oriented view of the virtual environment to include flexible business-oriented perspectives, companies can more effectively address the virtualization challenges of capacity planning, chargeback and virtual machine (VM) sprawl. Veeam Business View 2.0 extends this business context even further with configuration management database (CMDB) integration, expanded categorization capabilities and dynamic groups.

“CMDB integration is a feature frequently requested by our enterprise customers who want to extend the best practice of a CMDB to their virtual infrastructure,” said Anton Gostev, Director of Product Management for Veeam Software. “They can now synchronize object categorization from CMDBs and other third-party applications such as Microsoft Active Directory, thus simplifying the process of bringing an established business perspective to the monitoring and management of their virtual environments. Our customers are pleased with the real value this brings in terms of efficiency, consistency and accuracy.”

Other key enhancements in Veeam Business View 2.0 include:

·         Expanded categorization: Business View has always been able to categorize VMs, and v2.0 extends this capability to clusters, hosts and datastores. Veeam Business View 2.0 also has new rule capabilities. In addition to object names and infrastructure locations, rules can now be based on object properties, such as host CPU clock rate and memory size, datastore file system type, and VM vCPU usage.

·         Dynamic groups: Veeam Business View 2.0 automatically creates and maintains groups and group membership to reduce administrative overhead. For example, it can dynamically create, name and populate datastore groups based on free space utilization.

According to the editors at SearchServerVirtualization.com, “In today's climate, IT must constantly prove that its activities bring business value. Solutions such as Veeam Business View provide that data in a language that business leaders can understand.”

Veeam Business View 2.0 is part of Veeam ONE, which offers a single solution to optimize the performance, configuration and utilization of virtual infrastructures. Veeam ONE provides monitoring, capacity planning, change management, reporting and chargeback, and more. It is available in three versions to accommodate each customer’s particular monitoring environment:

Elevator Pitches No Longer Work: Learn to Hit a Financing Home Run at Money Chase Event

Elevator Pitches No Longer Work:

Learn to Hit a Financing Home Run at Money Chase Event

Interactive Workshop Takes the Pain out of the Investment Process

Markham, Ontario – March 7, 2011 – Raising the first seed and start-up funding for a business is among the hardest work any budding entrepreneur will ever face. But it doesn’t have to be. There are common “rules of the road” every investor looks for, and once you anticipate those questions – and know how to answer them – the process of receiving funding becomes a practical application, says W. Daniel Mothersill, creator of Pitch+, an interactive one-day workshop that is making its debut in York Region as part of a series called The Money Chase 2011: Pitching for Today’s Capital.

“Standing up and pitching for cash is truly one of life’s most unnatural acts,” says Mothersill a serial entrepreneur, angel investor, and founding member and past president of the National Angel Capital Organization. “Every investor has a mental checklist – the problem is they don’t always share it with the company in front of them, so what we’ve done is compile a program that peels the layers of the investment onion for them,” adds Mothersill, who is also an advisor at the Innovation Synergy Centre in Markham (ISCM) Investment Network, with experience in industries ranging from IT and manufacturing, to green technologies and resources.

WHAT:                       Money Chase 2011: Pitching for Today’s Capital

                                    Pitch+ Workshop

WHEN:                       Thursday, March 17, 2011

                                    8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

WHERE:                    Markham Convergence Centre Showcase

7271 Warden Avenue, Markham

PRESENTED BY:     Innovation Synergy Centre in Markham (ISCM) Investment Network

REGISTRATION:    Free-of-charge

INFORMATION:     www.iscm.ca or call Brigitte Sharpe at (905) 248-2735

URL:                           http://www.iscm.ca/moneychase/

With registration available on a first come, first serve basis, the limited-seating event is designed to give entrepreneurs the tools they need to bullet-proof their presentations.

Workshop topics include how to find money in a tight economy, what investors demand to see but won’t tell you, why typical elevator pitches don’t work, and how to take your presentation beyond words. A must-attend event for any entrepreneur who is serious about raising money, the interactive program takes the mystery out of the financing process.

“The problem with elevator pitches is that no investor cares what you do,” says Mothersill. “It’s not that you’ve built a better mousetrap – it’s what pain does that trap solve in the marketplace and is there a significant demand? If you can answer this in a sentence or two, and then tell me you have a unique solution, then you’ll have my interest.”

The Pitch+ workshop isn’t a magic bullet, he adds. Rather, it’s a straightforward approach based on his years of experience as an angel investor and entrepreneur himself. In the last decade, Mothersill founded and financed eight companies, four of which spun off into profitable enterprises. He also created the Angel Network Program for Ontario’s Ministry of Research and Innovation, securing $2.5 million in funding to launch 12 angel investor groups in the province.

“The net sum of a killer idea is zero unless you can turn it into a profitable business,” says Mothersill, noting that securing the seed money required for commercialization is usually the biggest stumbling block. “By the end of this workshop, you’re going to know how to position yourself, what your presentation should look like, how to deliver it, and what the demands of your audience are. We take the pain out of getting up front and personal with investors,” he says.

Android Threats Going to Next Level - Info From Symantec

Subject: Android Threats Going to Next Level - Info From Symantec
To:

Good afternoon,

Symantec has detected malware authors who are taking malicious Android apps to the next level beyond the methods used in Android.Pjapps. As we shared with you earlier this week, with Android.Pjapps malware authors took free apps from the official Android Market and bundled them with malware and released them on unofficial Android marketplaces.

Now malicious authors are making their malicious Android apps available on the official Android Market under different application and publisher names. According to sources, 50,000 to 200,000 downloads of these malicious apps took place within a four-day time frame since they were made available. Google has taken action and has removed these apps from the official Android Market.

More information on this threat can be found at: http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/new-android-threat-gives-phone-root-canal. Please let me know if you’d like to discuss this in greater detail with a Symantec expert.

Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper Networks conduct 100G interoperability trial

Nokia Siemens Network

Press Release

Munich

, Germany – March 4, 2011

Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper Networks conduct 100G interoperability trial

Move towards commercial reality of 100G data transport over long distances

Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper have successfully conducted 100 Gbps interoperability testing between Optical Transport Network (OTN) equipment and the routers. The trial was conducted at Nokia Siemens Networks’ ResIP Center in Munich, Germany. Nokia Siemens Networks will demonstrate the tested 100G line cards at the OFC/NFOEC conference in Los Angeles, California during March 8-10, 2011.

The trial was conducted to test seamless interworking on Nokia Siemens Networks’ hiT 7300 DWDM platform and Juniper’s T1600 core router, using the native 100 Gbps Ethernet interface. Commercial roll-out for 100G on Nokia Siemens Networks’ hiT 7300 is scheduled for mid 2011.

“Nokia Siemens Networks is a leader in IP integration with extensive capabilities in optical transport and this achievement is a testimony of our successful partnership with it,” said Daniel Hua, senior vice president of the Core Business Unit at Juniper Networks. “We have many 100G customers, who are looking for expanded service and proven long haul capabilities that are critical to the further adoption of 100G in networks.”

“Interoperability of router and DWDM network elements is a prerequisite for carriers to build and upgrade their networks in a cost efficient manner,” added Marc Rouanne, head of Network Systems (NWS) and member of Executive Board of Nokia Siemens Networks. “The demonstration confirms that worldwide carriers and operators can transport high volumes of data over long distances along with ensuring excellent network performance.”

Notes to editors:

Increasing line rates from 10GE to 100GE per router port and per DWDM channel allow operators to scale their network in order to keep up with the increasing bandwidth demand from IP/Ethernet services. Core IP/MPLS router networks interconnect across long haul DWDM transmission networks.

Nokia Siemens Networks’ DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) solution, comprising of the hiT 7300 and TransNet DWDM planning and automation tool, provide a cost optimized, flexible and automated platform. It also offers a viable answer to the excessive traffic demand, reconfiguration and cost pressure issues. The design principle of the DWDM platform (hiT 7300) is based on high modularity as well as high re-use, thereby, creating a single platform from metro to core. It also provides network operators with a new level of simplicity for commissioning and maintaining DWDM systems, driving out complexity while providing complete administrator control. Nokia Siemens Networks’ TransNet, end-to-end planning tool provides an optimal network design, guaranteed performance and automated configuration, resulting in significant OPEX savings. Moreover, it reduces outage time and procedural errors along with an exceptionally low TCO.

With over 100 DWDM customers around the world, Nokia Siemens Networks provides a migration path to Terabit Optical Transport. It also provides scaling capacity for channels of 10/40/100 Gbit/s, with its platform being open to 400Gbit/s and even more. Nokia Siemens Networks has 12 hiT 7500 customers and 90 hiT 7300 customers.
