NEWS RELEASE: Cisco Helps Channel Partners Evolve With Cloud Partner Program and Collaborative Professional Services

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cisco Helps Channel Partners Evolve With Cloud Partner Program and
Collaborative Professional Services

NEW ORLEANS - Cisco Partner Summit – March 1, 2011 – Cisco today
announced it is investing in new channel initiatives to help partners
evolve to monetize the cloud opportunity and expand their professional
services practices. Today at its annual global partner conference, Cisco
introduced a new cloud partner program to help partners choose their
role in the cloud and evolve their business models to capitalize on the
multi-billion cloud market opportunity.  To help partners enhance their
professional services capabilities and accelerate their evolution to
selling end-to-end communications and IT solutions or 'architectures,'
Cisco also unveiled its latest smart services innovation, Cisco®
Collaborative Professional Services.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Cloud Partner Program

* The Cisco Cloud Partner Program (CPP) has three tracks that provide
partners with the flexibility to choose the role they want to play in
the market: Cloud Builder, Cloud Provider and Cloud Services Reseller.

- Cloud Builder is for partners who design and implement cloud-ready
infrastructures or fully provisioned private or public clouds. The
designation validates partners' competency in three aspects of building
clouds: Infrastructure, Management Applications and Cloud Professional
Services.

- Cloud Provider is designed for partners offering public cloud
services to the market.   The Cloud Provider track empowers and supports
our cloud service provider partners to sell their own brand of
Cisco-powered cloud services.

- Cloud Services Reseller is complementary to the Cloud Provider track
as it offers an additional route to market for the cloud provider.
Cloud Services Resellers are partners who "white-label" or resell a
Cloud Provider's "Cisco Powered Service."

* The Cloud Builder and Cloud Provider tracks include branding, as well
as reference architecture support, financing, market development funding
and access to channel partners as a route to market.  These benefits are
in addition to those the partners already receive from Cisco.

* To reduce incremental costs to partners, CPP builds upon partners'
existing certifications in Cisco and its ecosystem partners.

Collaborative Professional Services

* Collaborative Professional Services (CPS) is a portfolio of services
that combines Cisco intellectual capital, engineering expertise and
service automation to help partners profitably expand or build new
professional services practices.

* CPS delivers several types of services to Cisco partners:

- Assessment Services: Software tools help partners analyze and collect
data through assessments and automate  service capabilities.

- Guidance and Development Services: Cisco engineering resources review
or create technology design and implementation plans to enable
partners.

- Practice Accelerators: Cisco Services best practices around new
technologies or architectures are shared to help partners design or
expand a professional service practice.

* With 30 business services in the portfolio, CPS spans all major
technologies in Cisco borderless networks, collaboration and data
center/virtualization architectures and will expand to offer cloud
services later this year.

* CPS helps qualified Cisco partners expand into new technology markets
faster and increase the operational efficiency of their services
practices by using Cisco engineering resources, intellectual property,
proven methodologies and service automation.

* Cisco routinely captures knowledge through millions of customer
interactions and applies that expertise to deliver smart service
capabilities. These smart services enable partners to deliver proactive,
automated services and profitably grow their service practices.

* As Cisco's latest smart service innovation, CPS helps Cisco partners
increase customer satisfaction
by providing proactive guidance as well
as actionable customer recommendations based on real-time network
intelligence to their customers.

Tech Data Canada Improves How the Channel Sells and Distributes Software

Brings new levels of speed and simplicity to quoting, selection and ordering

Mississauga, ON – March 1, 2011 – Tech Data Canada, a leading distributor of technology products, today unveiled the StreamOneSM Software License Selector, a new application only available on techdata.ca. The Software License Selector is the first in a series of exclusive e-business services the company is building on its new StreamOne software platform, which improves how the channel sells and distributes software by making it more efficient and less complex.

The StreamOne Software License Selector significantly surpasses contemporary software license tools in breadth and ease-of-use. In four simple steps, the StreamOne Software License Selector guides resellers through the entire software-purchasing process, sifting through hundreds of thousands of software SKUs and each vendors’ complex licensing rules to identify the right software part number, the most accurate pricing and the correct license type.

The StreamOne Software License Selector establishes the industry’s most accurate and efficient software license distribution channel, reducing the cycle time from quote to license from days to minutes. For resellers, it lowers licensing processing costs, instantly provides accurate pricing and makes it easy to attach software to all hardware sales. For vendors, it provides the opportunity to increase their channel partners as more resellers will now be able to sell software using the Software License Selector.

“The complex nature of licensing has made software sales a daunting task for many resellers,” said Greg Myers, vice president, Marketing, Tech Data Canada. “Tech Data has essentially taken the complicated and made it simple for resellers to participate in the lucrative software market.  It’s just 4 easy steps using the StreamOne Software License Selector.”

The StreamOne Software License Selector automates tasks like SKU selection and order qualification for 27 major software vendors—representing more than 99 percent of the software licenses purchased through Tech Data.

The StreamOne Software License Selector aims to quickly solidify Tech Data’s position as the premier software license distributor for the world’s leading software companies. Additionally, the StreamOne Software License Selector will help Tech Data strengthen software sales, especially among small and medium businesses.

“The StreamOne Software License Selector is breakthrough technology for the software channel,” said Tamra Muir, Senior Director, Distribution and Alliances, Autodesk. “Tech Data Canada is making great strides in software distribution."

Software vendors supported by the StreamOne Software License Selector include: Absolute Software, Acronis, Adobe, Autodesk, BitDefender, Computer Associates, Check Point, Corel, Diskeeper, Double-Take, Filemaker, Ipswitch, Kaspersky, McAfee, Microsoft, Novell, Oracle, Parallels, Red Hat, Sage Act!, SAP, SCO, SolarWinds, Symantec, Trend Micro, Vasco, VMware.

To learn more, resellers can access the StreamOne Software License Selector under the Tools menu on techdata.ca or by calling their Tech Data account manager.

Logicalis Says Cloud Computing vs. Server Purchases is Hot Social Media Topic among IT Professional

Logicalis Says Cloud Computing vs. Server Purchases is
Hot Social Media Topic among IT Professionals

Farmington Hills, MI, March 1, 2011– To buy or not to buy? That seems to be the question among enterprise IT buyers weighing server purchases according to Logicalis, an international provider of integrated information and communications technology (ICT) solutions and services (www.us.logicalis.com). During the technology solution provider’s recent social media conversation sweep of IT decision makers, many indicated they were considering taking it to the cloud when it came to server purchases.

In its survey of social media conversations among mid- to large-size enterprise IT decision makers conducted between December 2010 and February 2011, Logicalis noted 800 mentions about server purchasing, with over one in four pondering whether it makes sense to consider cloud services rather than purchase a server.

Among IT professionals who indicated they were buying servers, reasons included:

·         Increasing capacity

·         Upgrading security

·         Improving performance and/or service

·         Selecting a better vendor

·         Purchasing a new server as a backup, or replacing a current server and then using it for back up

Among IT buyers considering cloud computing, reasons included:

·         Buying computing as a service for an agreed service level and a lower, fixed monthly cost

·         Obtaining required software on demand with guaranteed availability and cost tied to usage

·         Paying for peak usage as required, rather than purchasing additional servers

·         Saving money by not having to purchase servers

“As a provider of technology from Cisco, HP and IBM, and a cloud services provider, Logicalis is uniquely positioned to provide or build server and cloud solutions,” said Mike Martin, Director of Cloud Computing, Logicalis. “We take a consultative approach to server purchases and cloud solutions, understanding that many organizations are requiring both. New strategies around private cloud can incorporate the best of both worlds.”

Press Release

Curitiba

, Brazil
– March 1, 2011

Copel to offer super-fast broadband in Paraná, Brazil

Selects Nokia Siemens Networks’ optical networking equipment to increase network capacity and provide affordable services

Copel, the regional telecom operator in Paraná, Brazil, will soon deploy a 3,000 km optical fiber network to offer high-speed, affordable data services to consumers. The operator has selected Nokia Siemens Networks’ optical networking equipment to increase its network capacity and bring down the cost of providing internet access to bridge the digital divide in the state.

“Brazil has a low fixed-line broadband penetration of six percent, compared to the Latin American average of 11 percent. In our attempt to increase broadband penetration and serve a larger number of users, it’s crucial to keep prices low, especially in the under-served areas,” said Antonio Carlos W.R.de Melo, Transmission and Infrastructure Engineering, Copel Communications. “With the help of Nokia Siemens Networks’ optical networking leadership, we are building one of the most advanced and future-proof optical networks in Latin America to achieve this goal.”

“As Brazil prepares to put its national broadband plan into action, there is much to be learnt from Copel, which has consistently aimed to offer affordable data services while continuing to be profitable,” said Aray Chagas, head of customer business team for local operators at Nokia Siemens Networks. “With its latest project, Copel takes another step closer to its goal of ensuring internet access for all. Nokia Siemens Networks fully supports Copel in its aim to bridge the digital divide.”

Under a two-year frame contract with Copel, Nokia Siemens Networks will provide its hiT 7300 Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) solution*. Additionally, Copel’s network will be equipped with the photonic cross-connect** technology to reduce the cost of carrying data and ensure network scalability to meet future demands.

Nokia Siemens Networks will also provide Copel its optical network planning tool TransNet*** to optimize the rollout, and reduce operating costs and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) significantly. Apart from providing its Telecommunication Network Management System (TNMS), Nokia Siemens Networks also provides related services including network installation, commissioning, training and support.

Notes to editors:

* hiT 7300 Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) solution provides a cost optimized, flexible and automated platform to support excessive traffic demands and reconfiguration, and enables low-cost services. It is focused on high modularity as well as high reuse to create a single platform from metro to core. It drives out complexity while providing complete administration control.

** Photonic Cross-Connect is a technology that allows the switching of wavelengths (or lambdas) on the optical layer. Basically, there are micro-electronic mirrors that choose the direction to (and from) which the light is connected without the need to manually intervene in the network. It is similar to what happened with telephone switches: when old telephony centrals manually connected by operators (with wires and plugs) were evolved to digital switches, everything was done via software.

*** The hiT7300 and TransNet cover the convergence of IP with optical capacity (next generation optical access solution ranging from Metro and Access to Core), leading to unlimited capabilities (with migration from 10 Gbps to 40 Gbps to 100 Gbps per channel on the optical highways).

Android Malware Heating Up - Info From Symantec

Good afternoon,

Symantec has recently observed an uptick in malware targeting the Android mobile computing platform. The most recent example being the new Android., which like other Android Trojans is spreading via altered versions of legitimate apps hosted on unregulated third-party Android marketplaces.

Android.Pjapps masquerades as a popular “Steamy Window” app. The legitimate features of the original app are still present in the malicious version, but it also features additional functionality that allows an attacker to build a botnet. Among other things it is able to install applications, navigate to websites, add bookmarks to the user’s browser, send text messages and block text message responses. It also sends sensitive user information back to the attacker.

Looking at the threat capabilities, Symantec believes it has been designed and may be used to peddle ad campaigns and to obtain benefits from the use of third-party premium rate services at users’ expense.

To avoid becoming a victim of such Trojanized Android applications, Symantec recommends users:

·         Only use regulated Android marketplaces for downloading and installing Android apps.

·         Adjust Android OS application settings to stop the installation of non-market apps

·         Review other users’ comments on the marketplace to assist in determining if an app is safe.

·         During the installation of Android apps, always check the access permissions being requested for installation; if they seem excessive for what the application is designed to do, it would be wise to not install the application.

·         Utilize a mobile security solution on devices to ensure any downloaded apps are not malicious.

·         Enterprises should consider implementing a mobile management solution to ensure all devices that connect to their networks are policy compliant and free of malware.

More information on this threat can be found here: http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/android-threats-getting-steamy.

Also, please let me know if you’d like to discuss this in greater detail as I have a Symantec security expert standing by.

Best,
Elana

NEWS RELEASE: Cisco Networking Academy Reaches 1 Million Students Annually Worldwide

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cisco Networking Academy Reaches 1 Million Students Annually Worldwide

"World's Largest Classroom" Has Delivered Information and
Communications Technology Education and Skills to Nearly Four Million
Students Since 1997

SAN JOSE, Calif. - February 28, 2011 - Cisco today announced that its
largest and most enduring corporate social responsibility program, the
Cisco®  Networking Academy®, has enrolled its 1 millionth concurrent
student for the first time. In partnership with educational
institutions, government administrations and community based
organizations around the world, the Networking Academy delivers
information and communications technology (ICT) education through
effective in-classroom learning combined with innovative cloud-based
curricula and tools to prepare students for careers in the 21st-century
global economy.

Key Highlights:

* The Networking Academy began in 1997 with 64 schools and has grown to
become one of the "world's largest classrooms" with 10,000 academies in
165 countries, and nearly 4 million students having participated in the
program to date.

* A pioneering example of cloud-based education delivery, the
Networking Academy teaches students how to design, build, troubleshoot,
and secure computer networks for increased access to career and economic
opportunities in communities around the world.  Students who complete
the program often go on to secure entry-level career opportunities,
participate in continuing education and achieve globally recognized
career certifications.

* Networking Academy courses are delivered in multiple languages
through a cloud-based learning system. Courses are supported by
classroom instruction, hands-on learning activities, and interactive
online assessments that provide personalized feedback. Networking
Academy instructors receive extensive training and support to help
ensure a consistently-enriching learning experience for students around
the world.

* Cisco is celebrating this milestone by offering Networking Academy
students and alumni the chance to show the benefits of this unique
classroom experience through a video contest titled "Why is The Cisco
Networking Academy Classroom Like No Other?"

Quotes:

* Amy Christen, vice president of Cisco Corporate Affairs and
Networking Academy

"Networking Academy is truly the world's largest classroom. The unique
delivery model combines the power of the network and the cloud with the
global need for ICT skills-based education to address the critical need
for networking professionals around the world."

* Dr. Hoda Baraka, first deputy to the minister of communications and
information technology, and professor of computer engineering, Cairo
University, Arab Republic of Egypt

"Cisco keeps searching for what is missing for the skills required for
the 21st century and delivers the most critical lessons to our students.
The Networking Academy training is interesting to the students due in
part to its integrated online and hands-on approach to learning. As a
teacher, I enjoy the student-centric approach and the value that
hands-on learning brings."

* Josep Francí, director general for vocational, artistic, and
specialized studies, Regional Ministry of Education; and director
general of vocational training and lifelong learning at the Department
of Education, Catalonia, Spain

"I think in the very beginning the fact that a company like Cisco was
supporting the Networking Academy was very attractive for teachers and
students. After a while we began seeing learning results - a much higher
number of students and lower dropout rates - so the earlier attraction
has proved to be right."

* Kelly Gheesling, Networking Academy Graduate, Michigan

"As I make steps forward in my career, I carry with me the knowledge
and the solid foundation that the Networking Academy built. I love my
job and I am grateful for all of the doors this program has opened."
