Quotes
“I find PocketCloud invaluable when I am doing my rounds to see patients,” said Dr. Michael Klein, a pediatric physician at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn. “Being able to get the applications and information on my iPad when and where I need it helps me complete routine charting in a fraction of the time. The additional mobility is particularly helpful, because it means that I can go to where the children are and update information on the fly rather than having to log information or find a desktop to make amendments.”

“Users require access to their digital assets at their fingertips wherever they might be,” said Tarkan Maner, vice president and general manager, Cloud Client Computing at Dell. “With the larger and more user-friendly interface available on tablet devices, users can do it all, from sharing personal memories to editing professional documents. Dell Wyse PocketCloud solutions make cloud computing less ’pie in the sky‘, and more ’palm of your hand’, as users are able to not only access all their assets from their mobile devices, but also change, upload and delete them at will.”

“Dell continues down a path to capitalize on opportunities to address the ever-increasing pressures of BYOD with new consumer solutions for easy data access while also adhering to demands of IT to create secure and manageable environments,” said Stacy Crook, program manager, mobile enterprise at IDC. “Dell’s updated portfolio of PocketCloud services enables consumers to easily access, view and share content across personal clouds, within multiple operating environments, while providing IT with a secure means of providing remote access to professional content.”

Las Vegas

Global, November 27, 2012

OpenShift Enterprise, Built on Leading Open Source Technologies from Red Hat, is Designed for Deployment in Customer Datacenters or in Public, Private or Open Hybrid Clouds

Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the next step in the delivery of its Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) strategy with the general availability of OpenShift Enterprise, an enterprise-ready PaaS product from Red Hat that is designed to be installed on-premise within customer datacenters or private, public or hybrid clouds. The product enables customers to streamline and standardize developer workflows, facilitating increased IT service delivery velocity that can better support business demands. This news fulfills Red Hat’s plans for an on-premise PaaS offering, first announced in May 2012, and establishes the industry’s first comprehensive, open on-premise PaaS for enterprises.

OpenShift Enterprise provides enterprise users with access to a cloud-based application platform, enhancing an enterprise’s ability to build the applications it needs and have them run in a cloud architecture. It automates much of the provisioning and systems management of the application platform stack in a way that enables the IT operations team to more easily meet growing business demands for new application services. OpenShift Enterprise also provides an on-demand, elastic, scalable and fully configured application development, testing and hosting environment for application developers so that they can focus on coding these new application services. With its unique Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) approach, OpenShift Enterprise also offers reliable security and multi-tenancy with the ability to subdivide the Node instances.

OpenShift Enterprise is built on a trusted stack of open source-based Red Hat technologies, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and OpenShift Origin, the basis for Red Hat’s existing online OpenShift PaaS service that has been available in a free beta since May 2011. With the inclusion of JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6, OpenShift Enterprise becomes the only Java EE 6-certified on-premise PaaS available to enterprises today. OpenShift Enterprise also benefits from the consistent innovation and contributions driven by the open source Origin project community focused on OpenShift. As a polyglot, or multi-language, PaaS, OpenShift Enterprise supports Java, Ruby, Python, PHP and Perl and it includes a cartridge-based architecture to enable customers to include their own middleware services.

Availability
OpenShift Enterprise is available today with support from Red Hat. The product is initially offered in North America, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe, with plans for global availability in the future. The OpenShift PaaS online service remains available in developer preview via https://openshift.redhat.com.

HP Unleashes the Power of Operational Analytics to Optimize Performance for Hybrid Environments

HP Unleashes the Power of Operational Analytics to Optimize Performance for Hybrid Environments

Market-leading HP Business Service Management software harnesses big data analytics to better predict, prevent and respond to IT issues

PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 27, 2012

HP today announced a new version of HP Business Service Management (BSM) software,  the first solution of its kind to use big data analytics to improve the performance and availability of business software across mobile and hybrid IT environments.

With the increasing use of virtualization and cloud technologies, IT organizations no longer know or control all the technologies in their environment, making it difficult for applications and operations teams to foresee potential issues. IT needs a new solution that both predicts the occurrence of known problems and identifies previously unknown issues before they occur.

HP BSM delivers end-to-end visibility into IT applications and services. With powerful real-time and historical analytics to monitor the health of the entire IT stack, from business services and applications to the infrastructure and networks, clients can anticipate real IT issues before they happen.

“In today’s complex hybrid environments, where business service availability and performance directly correlate to business success, IT organizations are looking for new ways to deliver predictable service levels,” said Ajei Gopal, senior vice president and general manager, Hybrid and Cloud Business Unit, Software, HP. “The new HP Business Service Management solution delivers end-to-end operational intelligence to help IT make better decisions and improve service levels in complex, dynamic IT environments.”

“It was difficult for our operations team to see the severity or identify the root cause of a particular service issue with old monitoring tools,” said Leiv-Erik Verspoor, senior platform consultant at Sykehuspartner, the largest IT service provider for hospitals in northern Europe. “HP BSM automatically notifies our IT team of potential issues with our infrastructure and services so we can quickly resolve the problem to reduce downtime and ultimately lower costs for our customers.”

HP Operational Analytics powers IT intelligence

New to HP BSM is HP Operational Analytics (OpsAnalytics), a capability that delivers actionable intelligence about the health of IT services by automating the correlation and analysis of consolidated data, including machine data, logs, events, topology and performance information.

HP OpsAnalytics is the seamless integration of HP ArcSight Logger—a universal log management solution—with the unique correlation capabilities of HP Operations Manager i (OMi) and the predictive analytics of HP Service Health Analyzer (SHA).

This combination delivers deep visibility and insight into any performance or availability issue, so clients can:

  • Remediate known problems before they occur with predictive analytics that forecast problems and prioritize issues based on business impact;
  • Proactively solve unanticipated issues by collecting, storing and analyzing IT operational data to automatically correlate service abnormalities with the problem source; and
  • Resolve incidents faster with knowledge based on historical analysis of prior similar events through search capabilities across logs and events.

HP BSM helps clients maximize IT investments with end-to-end visibility across heterogeneous environments by:

  • Ensuring service availability with a 360-degree view of IT performance,  by aggregating data from disparate sources into a single dashboard using out-of-the-box connectors to a range of management frameworks, including IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console, IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Microsoft® System Center;
  • Resolving and improving performance of applications running in OpenStack and Python cloud environments with diagnostics that pinpoint  performance bottlenecks; and
  • Improving availability of web and mobile applications through greater insight into client-side performance issues.

HP also lets virtualization administrators and virtualization subject matter experts (vSME) diagnose and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks in virtualized environments with HP Virtualization Performance Viewer (vPV). The free version is available to download today.

Kuveyt Turk Participation Bank boosts business efficiencies

Kuveyt Turk Participation Bank, a leading interest-free financial services provider in Turkey, improved IT service efficiency with HP BSM software. With locations in six countries and more than 220 in-country branches, the Kuveyt Turk IT operations team spends much of its time conducting reactive application monitoring, with an average service call lasting 30 minutes.

After reviewing multiple solutions, Kuveyt Turk chose HP BSM to monitor performance of business services across its eBanking, point-of-service, ATM, credit card services and call center environments. As a result, the company has reduced the number of calls to its service desk by 30 percent and reduced incident resolution time by 50 percent.(1)

“Lacking automated end-to-end monitoring of business services caused service outages, costing us approximately $400,000 annually,” said Aslan Demir, chief information officer, Kuveyt Turk Participation Bank. “We decided to implement HP BSM software and now monitor business services as a whole, resolving many problems without ever causing downtime.”

Available as a hybrid deployment

HP Business Service Management can be deployed in a hybrid model where HP Application Performance Management on HP Software as a Service is integrated with on-premises components of HP BSM. This deployment model allows customers to achieve a faster path to value and reduce cost by minimizing necessary upfront investments in deploying the HP BSM solution.

HP services help clients plan, deploy, support

HP Software Professional Services offers HP BSM Upgrade Services—a suite of services designed to offer customer choice and confidence. The options range from a fixed price, remote engagement tailored for simpler and smaller scale deployments, all the way to on-site, custom enterprise upgrades suitable for large and complex installations.

Additional information about the new version of HP BSM will be available via a webinar series beginning on Jan. 8, 2013. Additional information about HP BSM, including white papers, data sheets and solution briefs, is available at www.hp.com/go/bsm.

Pricing and availability

The new version of HP Business Service Management will be available worldwide directly from HP or through its ecosystem of worldwide channel partners. Pricing is based on a licensing model.

The free versions of HP Virtualization Performance Viewer (vPV) and HP ArcSight Logger are available to download from www.hp.com/go/vpv and www.hp.com/go/opsanalytics, respectively.

Embedded Consumer Electronics Device Revenues to Double in the Next Two Years Reaching $6.4bn in 2014

Embedded Consumer Electronics Device Revenues to Double in the Next Two Years Reaching $6.4bn in 2014

Rapid development cycles in Consumer Electronics drive new embedded & M2M applications

Hampshire, UK – 27th November 2012: Leading Hi-Tech analyst house Juniper Research has predicted that revenues from products and services delivered over embedded consumer electronics devices will reach $6.4 billion in 2014, as the sector emerges as a key anchor for the M2M (Machine to Machine) industry.

According to the report, eBook sales and subscriptions will be by far the most important service offered over cellular connected consumer electronics devices; while others have emerged, such as digital photo frames and Sony’s PS Vita games console, the eReader will outweigh all other consumer electronic devices in its ability to bring in revenue: “Cellular connectivity is slow to reach the lucrative gaming market since WiFi is sufficient for most use cases,” notes the report author, Anthony Cox.

Embedded Consumer electronics will also be where 4G chipsets first reach the M2M and embedded chipset market, finds the report, although 4G chipset distribution is still at its very early stages.

Further findings from the M2M & Embedded Strategies report include:

  • M2M and embedded devices to reach close to half a billion M2M and embedded devices by the end of 2017, from a little over 130 million at present
  • The price of M2M modules will continue to reduce, particularly the price of 3G modules, as automotive and consumer electronics use-cases require improved bandwidth and latency
  • APIs from M2M specialists are becoming increasingly sophisticated increasing the level of data analysis available to those deploying  M2M solutions
  • 4G chipsets, while shipping in very low volumes at present, will find their market in the automotive industry  and specific applications such as live video monitoring

The report includes a comprehensive analysis of the current state of play in the Embedded Mobile and M2M market and contains five year forecasts for M2M device numbers, service revenues, connectivity enablement revenues and the value of the hardware market

Last Minute Training Provides Affordable Education Options for IT Professionals Canada-Wide

Last Minute Training Provides Affordable Education Options for IT Professionals Canada-Wide

Toronto IT training provider introduces a unique & affordable approach to IT education in an attempt to gain traction with Canada's mid-sized business market.

Toronto, ON. (PRWEB) November 21, 2012

In a world of ever-evolving technological advancements, the need to stay current and keep up with IT trends has never been more imperative for business and personal growth. Staying relevant and maintaining a competitive edge amongst your peers & competitors is essential for overall success. However, doing so is often easier said than done. Going back to school is not a feasible option for many, and the rate at which IT trends are changing can make it quite difficult for one to get ahead of the curve.

Last Minute Training is an Ontario-based IT training provider that offers solutions to these all too common problems. With the fast-paced world we live in, where no one seems to have time for additional education, Last Minute Training caters to individuals looking to brush up on their IT skills in both a convenient and affordable manner. While IT training courses can be quite pricey, Last Minute Training is exactly what its name says; it provides individuals with quality and up-to-date IT courses to improve their skills at a last minute fraction of the original cost. The notion behind Last Minute Training is that there are a plethora of courses available at different dates and times that may not always be completely booked up. This excess participant capacity leaves room for those individuals who are interested in boosting their IT knowledge to occupy these empty seats and receive high quality training at an average discounted rate of between 20% and 50% off.

There are many advantages to taking a course with Last Minute Training. Be it for personal interest and skill development, or to advance one’s IT career by keeping up with the evolving technology, Last Minute Training offers seminars in over 800 categories. This means that whether you’re looking to brush up on software knowledge, or simply improve communication skills, the diverse range of available training courses offered by Last Minute Training caters to persons of various specialties and occupations.

Many IT companies (particularly small to mid-sized businesses) are taking advantage of Last Minute Training’s quality courses by enrolling their employees in educational seminars that will benefit both the individual and the company while keeping within a budget. In order to stay competitive in today’s IT world, companies must ensure that their employees have up-to-date knowledge of the current industry. However, finding good training for a large group of employees can be both time-consuming and costly. This is because employers not only have to cover the cost of training and wages, but must also experience the loss in productivity that is associated with having employees attending training courses. This is what makes Last Minute Training courses such an attractive option for small to mid-sized companies. Training is an essential component of any company, but particularly an IT one due to the ever-changing landscape and trends associated with today’s modern world. By catering to small and medium-sized businesses, Last Minute Training offers the unique opportunity for employees to stay current and relevant through high-quality training at an affordable price.

Last Minute Training also allows users to create personal “training wish lists” by selecting courses they’d be interested in taking at a later date. RSNA 2012 - Context-Aware Workflow Management is a Game-Changer

RSNA 2012 - Context-Aware Workflow Management is a Game-Changer

TORONTO, Nov. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - RSNA's upcoming 2012 Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, the world's premier event for medical imaging, will witness the introduction of a new software-enabled organizational innovation for diagnostic imaging: "context-aware workflow management".

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20121120/NY16467 )

In March 2012, the European Congress of Radiology recognized context-aware workflow management as an award-winning methodology for radiology quality assurance programs, and in May, it was selected for the Innovation Showcase at the e-Health 2012 conference in Vancouver, BC, as a breakthrough in shared workflow scenarios and applications.

Context-aware workflow management marks a shift in the direction of innovation for diagnostic imaging service providers – from data to workflow. This is in response to unmet process-driven organizational needs and improvement objectives. Many digital imaging organizations are under pressure to now guarantee service levels to patients, demonstrate an effective quality assurance program, create better patient-centric models of care, or address Meaningful Use requirements. Quite often, they have to do so across disparate, non-integrated PACS/RIS infrastructures.

Addressing these process-related challenges is expressly what context-aware workflow management is designed to do. Notably, because its approach is vendor-neutral and functionally complementary, it leverages and extracts incremental value from existing investments in PACS/RIS infrastructures.

The first context-aware workflow management software platform, Real Time Medical's DiaShare, will be demonstrated live at RSNA 2012.

DiaShare has enabled the largest teleradiology network in Canada for the past four years. Canadian Companies at Risk of Financial and Reputational Damage Resulting from Mismanaged Personal Information

Most firms are unable to adequately protect their customers against data breaches.

TORONTO, Nov. 23, 2012 /CNW/ - Recent studies indicate major discrepancies between the perception of privacy protection in Canada and the reality behind the ability of companies to protect personal information. A recent report from Advertising Standards Canada and MacLaren McCann indicates widespread willingness among Canadians to share personal information, with up to 79% exchanging their data to obtain a benefit. Trust in companies is increasing as up to 80% of Canadians believe their personal data is adequately protected. Unfortunately, the privacy landscape in Canada may suffer as a result of a false sense of privacy, according to a privacy professional and author of "Managing Personal Information: Insights on Corporate Risk and Opportunity for Privacy-Savvy Leaders" (Carswell, 2012).

The President and principal Risk Advisor of Toronto-based Informatica Corporation, Claudiu Popa says "we have been watching these studies come in and individually, they offer significant insight into the state of privacy but a cross-sectional analysis reveals a barometric predictor of the impact of personal information breaches over the short to medium term. The picture that emerges is anything but rosy. That's why we felt it was important to write this book" he added. According to the Edelman Privacy Risk Index, 62% of companies say their organization does not possess the expertise or technology to effectively protect personal information. The severity of these implications is underlined by a reported 15% annual increase in the number of companies that suffer from external privacy and security breaches (according to Ernst & Young).

While 73% of Canadians appear to show a surprising lack of concern over the information they submit online, they also indicate that they are aware that their Internet activities are tracked for marketing purposes. The majority are willing to share location data, shopping data and other information used for promotional purposes. The critical factor for Canadian companies is that 72 percent of respondents said they worry about the erosion of personal privacy even as they continue to share information online. In fact, the majority of Canadians do not want companies to share personal information with third parties and would prefer to have control over the shared data. The current study's findings independently support the book's perspectives as it offers solutions to prevent privacy breaches and their costly outcomes.

According to Claudiu Popa "89 percent of Canadians believe that they're already sharing too much information online and they're not hypocrites, they realize that they need to share information to get things done. Three quarters of consumers will abandon a company if information was accessed without permission. It's simply the way the economy, and the world as a whole, work. Unfortunately organizations that haven't yet read the book misinterpret the need of individuals to share information as a willingness to surrender personal details or even a weakness to be capitalized on. This is a dangerous conclusion to draw, and 57% of companies appear to support this view, because they said they do not consider privacy and the protection of personal information to be a corporate priority while 53 percent mistakenly believe that a data breach would not tarnish their reputation. 61% do not even enforce full compliance with laws and regulations."

At an approximate cost of $200 per compromised record, the average per-incident cost to companies has often exceeded $7 million over the past few years and will continue to climb with changes in legislation surrounding mandatory breach notification and anti-spam provisions. Between consumer concern, regulatory enforcement and litigation carving deeply into Canadian privacy operations, there should be no question that companies of all sizes need to place an absolute priority on compliance and enforcement, but it is often the damaging reputational impact and media scrutiny that convince firms to get serious about personal information protection. "Managing Personal Information" offers actionable guidance to enable the proper implementation of privacy programs within Canadian organizations.

"Managing Personal Information" is a uniquely Canadian collaborative effort to improve privacy and security practices at the higher levels of public and private leadership. The book's notable authors provide exclusive new content along with a foreword by the Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner, Ann Cavoukian.
