Subject: Android Threats Going to Next Level - Info From Symantec
To:
Good afternoon,
Symantec has detected malware authors who are taking malicious Android apps to the next level beyond the methods used in Android.Pjapps. As we shared with you earlier this week, with Android.Pjapps malware authors took free apps from the official Android Market and bundled them with malware and released them on unofficial Android marketplaces.
Now malicious authors are making their malicious Android apps available on the official Android Market under different application and publisher names. According to sources, 50,000 to 200,000 downloads of these malicious apps took place within a four-day time frame since they were made available. Google has taken action and has removed these apps from the official Android Market.
More information on this threat can be found at: http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/new-android-threat-gives-phone-root-canal. Please let me know if you’d like to discuss this in greater detail with a Symantec expert.
Regards,
Elana
