SecureKey Selects Dell to Build Scalable, Private Cloud-Based Authentication Platform for Growing m- and e-Commerce Business

·      Designed and built future-proofed ‘data centre in a box’ with no legacy footprint

·      Virtualized environment allows for valuable savings in cooling and power consumption

·      Private cloud provides flexibility, reliability, scalability and 100 per cent availability

TORONTO, Sept. 5, 2012Dell announced an agreement with Toronto-based SecureKey Technologies to provide an end-to-end private cloud infrastructure designed to scale and grow with the online security company’s rapid expansion model. Combining Dell’s servers, storage, security, switches and VMware with Dell’s IT Consulting and Dell Deployment Services, SecureKey has created a cost-effective IT solution that allows the company to serve existing clients and scale quickly and efficiently as new customers and government contracts come on board.

SecureKey’s Credential Broker Service was recently launched by the Government of Canada to allow Canadians to use their bank authentication credentials to access online government services. A service of this magnitude requires a highly scalable solution that can accommodate a huge influx of customers in a short space of time. SecureKey’s private cloud environment and virtualized solution enables this degree of scalability.

SecureKey’s solution uses five Dell PowerEdge R710 servers, three EqualLogic iSCSI SANs for storage, Dell PowerConnect 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches to handle storage traffic, and the VMware vFabric cloud application. This infrastructure solution offers several clear advantages in terms of upgradability, availability and cost effectiveness.

·         The elastic solution makes it easy to add new compute, storage and networking capacity as the company expands its client base. No ‘forklift’ upgrades are required. SecureKey simply adds another EqualLogic SAN to gain additional storage capacity and processing power, without any compromise to performance or client service.

·         The virtualized environment means only five physical servers are required to handle the work of 80 virtualized servers. The resulting space and power savings are considerable – approximately one-tenth of what they would be in a traditional one-server, one-function environment.

·         The VMware private cloud architecture allows for 100 percent availability even during ongoing maintenance and upgrades. Services are simply switched to another server with no downtime or service degradation.

SecureKey also selected Dell SecureWorks to monitor incoming and outgoing networking traffic using SecureWorks Network IPS and iSensor network intrusion prevention appliance.

QUOTES

“It was an easy decision to partner with Dell for our technology infrastructure needs. Dell immediately understood our concepts and need for a private cloud-based platform. They offered a one-stop shop for all our hardware and security needs, were able to design and implement our solution quickly and efficiently and offered tremendous support services. Having the Dell name behind us gives us added credibility when competing for contracts, particularly in the government space. With Dell, we’re confident we could double capacity and accommodate another large customer with millions of users in just a couple of weeks.” - Scott Allan, Head of Infrastructure Operations, SecureKey Technologies.

“Our association with SecureKey Technologies is a true end-to-end partnership. We were able to work with them from the earliest stages to design and build a cloud-based data centre, bringing together all of Dell’s component parts and business units. We’re delighted to provide the technology infrastructure to support this Canadian success story as they continue to grow in the online security space.” - David Miketinac, VP and GM, SMB, Dell Canada.
